CEREMONY SERIES 1993-2001

"I paint and draw light-filled environments of dynamic, mysterious and ambiguous space. I am interested in the place where the emotional and the intellectual connect. Although my work has representational elements of landscape, I consider it abstract, and myself a metaphysical rather than nature painter.

I use repeating pictoral devices that allow me to explore the idea of boundaries or barriers that are both solid and permeable, to move around in a space and imply space (what lies beneath and beyond). I explore the relativity of elements of pictoral space that are object/ground, light dark, warm/cool, transparent/opaque etc. only in relation to their immediate and adjacent surroundings. The conflict and ambiguity that is then inherent becomes emotionally charged, and stability, fragile." Physioc, 2001.
