Painting as a metaphor for life.

My work is about situations that read like screen play set directions; darkness with streaks of light from left to right, rotating on an axis with another unit acting against the movement to maintain equilibrium, or perhaps hoping for forward motion.

There is usually some sort of agent or energy trying to counteract the prevailing force, going against the stream. Sometimes it's a big blundering, blobby mess, well-intentioned but clueless. Sometimes tiny, sometimes just barely there, but the painting is rooting for it. It's not an impediment, it's the real deal, hiding in the chaos. It's the finger in the dyke, trying to save something worth saving. It's a vapor, a mere thought, struggling to hold out, thinking about where we are as a species in this messy, yet exquisitely heartbreakingingly beautiful world.

There is a glare, a light energy radiating from the edges of things. Everything is vibration, at the atomic level. Nothing is ever still. Nothing is ever truly separate. Things clump together or fall apart, whirling, at different speeds, realigning, reorganizing.
